History and projects
The Learning for Life Foundation has been in existence since 2002. Based on the conviction that education is the foundation for lifting people out of poverty, Learning for Life founder Josefine Bürgin focused on the implementation of school and training projects from the very beginning. In the foundation's first twenty years, a total of seven schools were built in Ethiopia for over three thousand pupils and more than four hundred apprentices were trained, primarily young women.

We are a Swiss foundation that has been supporting and challenging schools, apprenticeships and kindergartens in Ethiopia for over 20 years. We, as well as society and research findings, are constantly evolving and we intend to incorporate new approaches and methods into school education. Because in the end we are confronted with a no less essential question, which task(s) the school has or does not have in its core for a society, a community. We would like to contribute to an innovative further development of the school system in Ethiopia. Whereby the crucial question must be asked: How do we transform the education system in Ethiopia?
